Picking up your car after a repair
When you collect your car, review the work, invoice, and follow-up instructions. Make sure you understand the report so an unresolved finding does not get mistaken for a completed repair.
Compare the completed work with the work order
Go through the original order and any additional work you approved. Ask about the parts replaced, the diagnosis, and whether the original problem was resolved. Check that the invoice reflects what was agreed.
Clarify which findings were deferred or need monitoring. Diagnostic work may point to further investigation; that is different from a finished repair.
Ask for instructions for using the car
Ask whether the work requires a follow-up check or specific maintenance. Keep instructions about recurring symptoms or new warning lights, along with the service record, parts information, and the shop’s contact details.
For tires, coatings, or other treatments with specific care requirements, follow the instructions for the work actually done rather than relying on general online advice.
Raise questions promptly
If the invoice or result is unclear, contact the shop with a precise description and keep written records. For repairs in Finland, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority’s guidance on repair problems (opens in a new tab) explains relevant next steps.
If you are unsure whether the car is safe to drive, ask a professional before driving and follow the vehicle manual. Add the completed work and next steps to your annual car maintenance plan.
