Repairing sunken paving

Start a repair to sunken paving by investigating why it sank. Lifting and leveling the pavers may be only a short-term fix if a base or drainage problem continues.

Document the change and how the area is used

Take an overall photo and explain when the change was noticed. Mention standing water, previous excavation, or heavier vehicles now using the area. Ask whether the contractor needs to open the structure to assess the cause.

A localized dip, movement across the whole area, and displaced edge stones can need different repairs. Request a proposal based on the findings rather than a generic leveling quote.

Check whether the existing pavers can be reused

Ask whether they can be lifted and relaid. Check replacement availability if some are broken or the area will expand. New pavers in the same color may look different from an aged surface, so agree on an acceptable result before ordering.

Mark the repair boundaries. If only a small area is leveled, its connection to the surrounding surface needs to be resolved too.

Ask for a quote that addresses the cause

Separate removal, base repair, possible drainage changes, relaying, and jointing. Ask how the price will be refined if the underlying structure is weaker than expected.

At handover, check agreed elevations and connections and request a record of the repair. Planning water flow through the yard is a useful next topic if pooling is involved. Understanding the cause lets you compare repairs by the lasting result rather than just the area covered.
