Requesting a scheduled car maintenance quote

Request a scheduled maintenance quote using the vehicle’s identifying details, odometer reading, and service history. A generic “minor service” package may not match the next visit required by your particular car’s maintenance schedule.

Provide precise vehicle information

Give the registration number or other identifier the shop needs, the odometer reading, and details of the last service. Mention any known service tasks previously left undone. Make sure the provider can establish the correct vehicle version and maintenance schedule.

The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority’s maintenance guidance (opens in a new tab) emphasizes following the manufacturer’s service schedule. Ask the shop which schedule its quote uses and whether it has the necessary current information. The linked consumer guidance applies in Finland.

Separate scheduled service from other findings

Report symptoms at the same time, but ask for their investigation as a separate task where necessary. Scheduled maintenance does not automatically include diagnosing or repairing every fault.

Check the tasks, parts, fluids, and other charges in the quote. If a scheduled task is omitted or an addition is proposed, ask for the reason and a separate price.

Agree on the visit arrangements

Confirm drop-off, estimated completion, and any loaner car. Record how extra work will be approved and a number where you can be reached. Ask how the service will be entered in the vehicle’s history and which documents you will receive.

When comparing auto services, quotes requested for the same scope are easier to assess. Check the full price, including applicable taxes, so an appealing package name does not hide missing tasks.
