Custom slipcovers for a sofa or armchair

A sofa or armchair slipcover should suit the furniture’s shape, how it is used, and its care needs. It needs to fit the way you want while still being practical to remove and put back on.

Check the design and furniture condition

Explain whether the furniture already has a removable cover and whether it could serve as a pattern. Include photos of the frame, cushions, and existing cover. Worn or stretched fabric may not provide accurate dimensions for a new one.

Ask whether the condition of the cushioning will affect the fit. If you plan to replace cushions, their final shape needs to be considered before cutting the fabric.

Choose material with cleaning in mind

Mention pets, children, and everyday use. Ask for care instructions for the fabric options and how washing or other cleaning may affect size and appearance. The word “washable” alone does not specify a suitable cleaning method.

Agree on seams, fastenings, and the intended fit. A relaxed, loose cover and a closely tailored one are different results, so explain what you like about any reference photos.

Allow for a fitting before finishing

Ask whether the furniture needs to go to the workshop or whether measuring and fitting will happen at home. Clarify transportation, pattern-making, and possible adjustment rounds. If you will supply the fabric, confirm the quantity with the sewing professional before buying it.

At handover, try removing and replacing the cover and check the fit. A more extensive armchair restoration is a different service if the frame or cushioning also needs repair. A clear scope helps avoid commissioning a new cover for a piece whose underlying problem lies elsewhere.
