Custom training or a ready-made online course?

Custom training suits teams whose actual tasks, shared practices, or questions need guided practice. A ready-made online course can work well when its content fits the goal and participants can progress independently.

Compare the format with the learning goal

Check the syllabus, prerequisites, and software version or environment used. Ask for a sample exercise or material. A long course catalog does not establish that your most important task is covered.

For custom training, clarify how much preparation and adaptation to your materials is included. Ask whether the trainer can address participants’ advance questions.

Account for the time required to participate

An online course needs calendar time just as in-person training does. Agree on when people will study and how practice connects to work. Independent learning will not work if daily demands repeatedly push it aside.

Group training needs a suitable group size and time for questions. A long lecture alone may not be the best way to develop a practical skill. Ask about support after the session too.

Consider a combination

Ready-made material can cover the basics before a shared workshop addresses company tasks. Tell the trainer what participants have already completed.

Compare included materials, access duration, exercises, feedback, and follow-up support. A skills needs assessment provides a basis for comparison. Learning becomes everyday practice only when practice and shared ways of working are arranged afterward.
