Hiring security for a retail store
Purchase retail security for defined tasks and situations. The need may involve staff support, disturbances, or particular opening hours, and the service should fit the customer experience too.
Describe operations through observations
Explain the type of store, variations in foot traffic, and situations needing help. Use general information in the request and discuss detailed security findings separately with the provider. Avoid unnecessary customer or employee personal data.
Ask the company to recommend and explain a service model. Base the level of presence on identified needs rather than hourly price alone.
Agree on cooperation between guards and staff
Define how staff request help and who is the client contact. Discuss customer-service expectations, reporting, and induction into store procedures. A contract cannot freely redefine guards’ duties or powers; the provider must ensure the service is appropriate.
For services in Finland, check the security company’s authorization through Finnish Police licensing information (opens in a new tab). Ask who provides cover and how site induction works when personnel change.
Evaluate against agreed measures
Arrange a review of the initial period. Consider availability at agreed times, staff experience of cooperation, and usefulness of reports. The absence of an individual incident alone does not prove the service’s effect.
Comparing mobile patrols and on-site guarding helps define the required presence. Clear service hours, duties, and change pricing make the arrangement easier to develop as store operations change.
