A band or a DJ for your wedding?

Choosing a wedding band or DJ depends on your musical preferences, the flow of the celebration, and the venue. A band brings a live performance, while a DJ can offer a broad selection of recordings and keep dancing going in the way you agree.

Describe the evening you have in mind

Share the approximate guest count, music preferences, and evening program. Listen to actual samples of the performer’s work and ask how they would shape the music for your celebration. A long song list alone does not show their performance style or how they engage an audience.

Agree on must-play songs and anything you do not want to hear. Ask how requests and your first dance will be handled. Learning a new song may be a separate task that needs to be agreed.

Check breaks and technical arrangements

Include the band’s sets and breaks or the DJ’s service hours in the quote. Ask what will play during breaks and who supplies background music. Check whether a microphone will be available for speeches.

Provide the venue details, including the performance area, setup access, and permitted operating hours. Live music in a small venue particularly needs a shared assessment of the space and appropriate volume.

Compare the whole evening

Ask the price to include equipment, travel, setup, breakdown, and any additional hours. Discuss arrangements for illness and changes. Determine any music licensing needs with the organizer, venue, and performers based on the nature of the event.

A breakdown of the performer’s quote makes the options easier to compare. Choose an arrangement that fits your celebration and whose practical limits you understand before booking.
